Can AI Rig (or teach you how to Rig)?

We can’t really avoid the topic of AI anymore. You may be wondering if learning rigging is still worth it. Can AI just rig for us? Or at least teach us how to rig, making tutorials like mine obsolete?

I recently came across a great video by Jamie Dunbar that tackles this exact question. I highly recommend watching it. It clearly shows what AI can and can’t do.

So while AI assistants are getting crazy good, there are still certain complex areas where they struggle - and rigging is one of them.

Why? Because rigging requires a good understanding of various areas:

the Blender interface
different Armature and Mesh modes
Relationships between bones, objects, and constraints
Spatial awareness and context
etc.

That’s a lot to ask from even the smartest AI.

So in my view, rigging will be one of the last 3D skills to be fully automated, and learning it now is still very much worth your time.
